Lala Chaman Lal ji

 

Born on the 1st January, 1899. Lala Chaman Lal ji, became the youngest Principal of the biggest school in Punjab known as Sain Dass Anglo Sanskrit High School, Jallandhar City in 1921. Within one year, the young of 23 years old genius, known for his dedication to education, was enrolled as a Life Member of D.A.V.College Trust and Management Society.

 

Within a short period, Lala Ji became a known identity in Punjab. He was elected as a member of School Board of Punjab University, Lahore in 1945. In 1948, he was nominated by the Govt. of Punjab as a Member of Punjab Advisory Board of Education. He was also elected Fellow of Punjab University Senate and Member of Punjab Legislative Council. Lala ji's untiring contributions to the cause of education were duly recognised and admired by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India when in 1961, he was honoured as being the First teacher in the country to receive the National Award for Teaching by the then President of India Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Lala Chaman Lal ji retired in March 1962 but continued to guide more than a dozen D.A.V. Schools as an honorary Manager.
